I hope you are enjoying your snow days. Due to the schedule, your paper is due on Monday. It should be a final handwritten essay. So you should brainstorm, draft and then write the final, which you will turn in!

You can also work on reading your biography/ autobiography for your first Independent Reading book of third quarter.

Review essay styles - descriptive, expository and our new one Persuasive Essays!
We will also discuss HOOKS

Homework:

New essay prompt, due HANDWRITTEN by Friday.

This is our first persuasive essay. This means that it is your job to convince the person who is reading your essay that YOUR opinion is right.

Tuesday 1/ 25

In Class: gifts, fairness vs. rightness

Homework: none due tomorrow, but you should be READING your biography/ autobiography

In Class: We hosted Regie Cabico, a local poet, who is getting us ready for a slam on 2/24!

Computer Lab 1/20

Today we are taking a creative writing break. Instead of an essay, you will use Storybird to create a story. The only requirement is that you choose a theme.

Don't know what a literary theme is? Look it up.

In Class: Vocabulary Plays, read IN TROUBLE from our textbook

Homework:
Monday- Newspaper article and read "In Trouble" which can be found on Blackboard under the "students" tab. It is in Elements of Literature, Second Course if you have not.

Also, remember to read this weekend. The next independent reading book is an autobiography or a biography, so figure out whose life from whom you could learn.

Thursday 1/ 13

Computer lab:
Log into my.hrw.com and click on the link "assignments"
On the next screen change Assignments due from "this week" to "all"
Complete the four assignments

note: immersion students will not be able to do this from home since they do not know their log-ins, if you missed class due to the field trip, please just read the story for homework!

After you are done, write a story on Storybird remember to include all the story elements - setting, characters, conflict, climax, resolution!

Read "In Trouble" which can be found on Blackboard under the "students" tab. It is in Elements of Literature, Second Course

In Class: Finishing presentations!

Homework: Independent reading is due Monday! It must be historical fiction. The assignment is under "Assignments" on the right hand side of the blog.

Parents: Students all saw their grades on Thursday. They should know what they are and what they did in the computer lab to improve them! So ask and see.
